1. Genetic and environmental predisposition of thyroid diseases
Our current study aims to investigate factors predisposing to thyroid diseases, including thyroid cancer and autoimmune thyroid diseases. Main research fields are Genome-wide association study (GWAS) and endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). GWAS is one of the most established methods to identify the risk genetic loci. For environmental factors, evidence is accumulating on the effects of EDCs on diseases, especially for those of thyroid disrupting chemicals (TCDs) on thyroid function.

2. Multiomics-based molecular characterization of thyroid cancers
Molecular characterization of advanced thyroid cancers can help to identify the pathogenesis and to develop therapeutic targets. We are focusing on multi-omics analysis of advanced thyroid cancers including anaplastic thyroid cancer. Integrated analysis of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics/lipidomics, and microbiome will contribute to in depth molecular characterization of thyroid cancers.

3. Tumor-associated microenvironments and inflammation
The inflammatory microenvironment may help to characterize aggressive tumors and to identify patients who would benefit from a more invasive approach, and recently-developed anti-inflammatory agents. We are investigating the immune responses against thyroid carcinomas and associations between inflammatory microenvironment and thyroid carcinomas.
